Just and Old Cowhand This Original Oil Painting is done on an 8"x10" Wrapped Canvas. Just an Old Cowhand is shown on a display easel. The edges are painted and it is not necessary to frame this painting, but it can be framed if you prefer. Please understand that the colors shown here may not match the actual painting as I have no control over the differences in monitors. I am an award winning Portrait Artist and I love to paint people and pets of all kinds. I also love to paint these small Character Studies. When painting Portraits, I focus on the likeness and personality of the subject, but with Character Studies, it's all about capturing the character of the subject and I am not concerned with the likeness of my model. If you should have the winning bid on this painting, you are only entitled to the the original. I retain all rights to reproductions as I hold the copyright. You may not copy, reproduce or publish this art without permission.

Ever ready to keeps his wits about him, this cool headed cat takes his creamer without coffee. The Making of this Painting: Hours of blood sweat & tears .. Ok, maybe not the blood, or even the tears, but I might have had one drop of sweat bead up on me brow! All of this and for what!? A kink in my neck and a headache from staring at this computer screen. My Artwork has been exhibited in several private local Artist Showings and I have also kept an ongoing presence in the Renegade Art Gallery, which is an independant group of Contemporary Artists who reside here in the Estes Park valley. My Work also continues to find a place within the homes of many Private Collectors Worldwide. Including pretty much all over Europe and Canada. What I have become known for is the Depth of Meaning and often Harsh almost Primitive Treatement and Reshaping of Delicate Subject Matter and the Emotional Response it Inspires. My Explorations in Paint include Surrealism Dreamscapes, Nude Figures, Abstract Portraits, Cat & Crow Caricatures, as well as Landscapes of the surrounding Rocky Mountains. If I could say anything in short as to my Mission here in this Place and Time as an Artist I would sum it up as follows: To Reveal to others the Great Depth of Experience I myself have Found by Peering into the Vast Complexity and Endless Beauty that makes up All Creation. HARVEY His original paintings are in the collections of major corporations, prestigious museums, the United States government, American presidents, governors, foreign leaders and captains of industry. The Smithsonian Institution chose Harvey to paint "The Smithsonian Dream" commemorating its 150th Anniversary. The Christmas Pageant of Peace commissioned Harvey to create a painting celebrating this national event. He has been the recipient of innumerable awards and the subject of three books. Through his art, our history lives. Harvey's art has intrigued and captivated a generation. his skilled use of light in dramatic settings, his considerable talent and persistent striving toward perfection have placed him and his work at the forefront of late twentieth century American art. G. Harvey grew up in the rugged hills north of San Antonio, Texas. His grandfather was a trail boss at 18 and helped create an American legend. So the American West is not only the artist’s passion but his birthright. Harvey's early interest in sketching and drawing slowly evolved into a passion for painting in oils. G. Harvey attended the University of North Texas and then transferred to University of Texas at Austin. G. Harvey soon realized that weekends and nights at the easel did not satisfy his love of painting. Harvey paints the spirit of America from its western hills and prairies to the commerce of its great cities. He abandoned the security of a full-time job in 1963 and threw his total energy into a fine art career. Two years as a "struggling artist" followed, but 1965 brought acclaim for the artists first prestigious show, The Grand National exhibition in New York, and the American Artists Professional League presented him with their New Masters Award. President Lyndon Johnson discovered his fellow Texans talent, became a Harvey collector and introduced John Connally to the artist’s work Connally was enthusiastic about Harvey's art and, on one occasion, he presented a G. Harvey original to each governor of Mexico's four northern states. Today, G. Harvey lives in Fredericksburg, Texas, with his wife Pat in a 150-year old stone home built by German settlers. His studio and residence are nestled within the Historic District of Fredericksburg Serigraphy utilizes the silk-screen printing process. For each desired color, a stencil is created indicating where the color will be applied. Then the stencil is adhered to a silk or nylon mesh screen, and paint of that color is forced through the screen on to the paper. This process creates a luxurious, vibrant and often-textured image. A serigraph requires a seperate silkscreen for each color of the image. Quality silk screen edition prints contain 50 to 100 seperate screens. During the printing process there is usually a day between applying colors to allow for drying time. A print with 75 color screens would take 75 days. The process is lengthy when quality is desired. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Ralph Mason when I was living in Temecula CA, 2006/2007 when I drove to Idyllwild, an artist community in the San Jacinto Mountains of Southern CA. I went to a gallery the has some of his work on display and inquired about the artist and was informed he was a local. They called him and I went to meet him. Quite a nice guy. I did end up purchasing a piece of art. About the painting: Ralph Wesley Mason, an American Impressionist "Cowboy on Horse" Oil on Canvas 30 x 24 Framed: Condition: very good. Signed: R. Mason Lower Right (considered to be a later work) Prior to my purchase, this painting had been stored for some years. The year of creation of this work is unknown. Some information on him follows. Ralph Mason completed the majority of his work between the 1960's to the 1990's. About the artist: Ralph Mason is an American Impressionist Painter, who is listed in the Artists Bluebook, b. 1916-d. 2008. Ralph was a dentist by trade who retired in 1980 in order to pursue painting full time. His career as a painter spanned over 40 years. Ralph studied under James Clutter who also painted under the name James "Colt" of Newport Beach, CA, who studied under Russian painter Sergie Bongard. Bongard had spent six-and-a-half years training under scholarship with Nicolai Fechin. Ralph's training and influence by Russian Impressionism is apparent in his work. As is his influence by Western Artist James Reynolds. Ralph also took classes from James Reynolds, the Western Painter "I took a class from James Reynolds, a famous Western painter". He said not to use a pencil, and distribute darks equally on both sides to balance the painting. Ralph spent a lifetime mastering the techniques of oil painting to render color, unity, shapes, texture, action and likenesses with great artistry. In his own words he sought to "bring things to light with color." --Ralph Mason. The artist is listed on askart.com ** Ralph Mason has won many awards including several "Best of Show's" throughout his career. His work has also been published in numerous magazines including the Palm Spring Art Magazine 1969, the 1970-71 year book of The Desert Art Center, Inc. of Coachella Valley and Desert Living Magazine in 1980. In addition, a painting of President Ronald Reagan by Ralph Mason was also exhibited in 1969 at the El Marador Hotel in Palm Springs at a Republican fund raising dinner which President Reagan was guest of honor. Ralph's work was also shown for several years in the David Salk Fine Art Gallery in Idyllwild, CA. Ralph Mason has used many signatures. In his early days while he was still practicing dentistry and painting as a hobby, he would sometimes sign "Dr. Ralph Mason" or "Dr. Mason." Following his retirement from dentistry, he began signing as "Ralph Mason." For In the last several years of his life, he simplified to "R. Mason." ** Ralph Mason created numerous studies throughout his career as an educational endeavor of other great artists past and present.
